About the Position: The incumbent will work at the Range Operations Branch for the Directorate Plans, Training, Mobility and Security Division at the Yakima Training Center in Yakima, WA.

Duties

Plan and schedule workers tours of duty to provide adequate coverage for range operations 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Participate in conferences and scheduling meetings to ensure the integration of range safety criteria in testing and training procedures. Coordinate with outside personal to ensure daily range operations. Inspect Live fire ranges to meet safety and regulatory requirements. Provide technical input to the compatibility of scheduled operations with range capabilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • May be required to complete occasional business travel
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) you must report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires shift work to cover nights, weekends and holidays. Shifts are rotated on a regular basis.
  • A pre-employment physical is required; job requires frequent heavy lifting of items weighing up to 44 lbs
  • A 1 year supervisory probationary period may be required

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience 1:)Performing live fire range inspections to ensure safety and regulatory compliance,2;) Reviewing range use requests to update and/or modify range schedules to meet unit training needs, and 3;) Briefing personnel and supervisors on range usage regulations/ restrictions and safety protocols. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Business Administration, Management, Etc OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementOral CommunicationPlanning and EvaluatingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
