This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with the US Army Engineer District, Operations Division, Project Operations Branch in Galveston, TX

Duties

Work independently exercising judgment and initiative to determine need for and extent of repairs in order to maintain equipment in continuous operation to the fullest extent possible. Determine and maintain current and adequate spare parts inventory sufficient to maintain floating plant in good operating condition under normal circumstances. Maintain current and accurate records of operations, malfunctions, repairs, modifications, etc., and enters pertinent information into computer to continuously update data. Assist supervisor in preparation of schedules and budget for maintenance and major fleet repairs for all Maintenance Section equipment. Put the operation and maintenance records into the COE's automated equipment maintenance system (FEM).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to random drug testing in accordance with EP 600-1-3.
  • Must have a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated and must maintain this license.
  • Temporary duty travel is required 25% or more of the time depending on mission duties and site location. TDY occurs 75% of the time to perform duties.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and meet the requirements of a pre-employment physical examination and must be able to meet the requirements of all subsequent physical examinations.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Marine Machinery Mechanic without more than normal supervision by applying duties of installing and replacing major engine components, maintain, repair, overhaul inboard diesel and outboard combustion marine engines and propulsion systems/gear reduction units as well as other related equipment aboard floating plants. I have the ability to develop a full maintenance program for all floating plant. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to stand, walk, climb, etc., most of the time in performing assigned duties. Frequently reaches, bends, pulls, pushes, lifts, etc., in order to move/ install/repair heavy machinery equipment. Lifts objects up to 100 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in inclement weather conditions and exposed to open river conditions when working on marine floating plant equipment. Subject to dangers of slippery surfaces and hazards attending movement of floating plant. Works in confined/enclosed areas subject to exhausts, fumes, noises, and cramped/awkward/uncomfortable positions. Works around moving/rotating/reciprocating machinery where there is danger of Injury due to falls, cuts, bruises, burns, etc.
