This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as Medical Officer at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), a geographically-separated unit of the United States Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM).

Duties

As a Physician, you will: Evaluate and determine military suitability by means of medical examination in order to determine approval/disapproval for entering the armed services. Advise the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) Commander on professional and medical technical aspects of conducting the MEPS medical examination program. Communicate directly with applicants on issues regarding abnormal findings personally or in writing. Provide life sustaining emergency care to stabilize applicants while waiting for outside emergency services.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security background check.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Must be familiar with computer peripherals and associated software as needed to accomplish the mission.
  • Occasionally may be required to work Saturdays.
  • Occasional shift work (before 0600 or after 1800 hours) may be required.
  • Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System with 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens Basic Requirements for Physician: Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (You must provide a copy of your transcripts in your application package.) Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States (You must provide a copy of your license in your application package.) Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. (You must provide proof of completion.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience/Training: Applicants must possess 2 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training such as Obtaining and recording medical history of patients; Ordering and/or reviewing diagnostic tests/labs; Assisting in performing medical examinations of patients; Training medical office staff in office policies and procedures.
