The primary purpose of this position is to perform duties performing as a senior information technology (IT) specialist that provides a wide range of IT services providing advanced knowledge and skill in the use of IT systems and is considered an advanced IT user.

Duties

****Duties may vary depending on grade level**** Analyzes a variety of unusual problems, questions, or conditions relative to develop and employ command, control, and mission information, processes, and systems in order to support related mission activities. Develops and maintains required programs to support mission needs Performs required testing, troubleshoots, and corrects system and applications software discrepancies. Manages mission knowledge, information, and situational awareness processes and systems for operational and tactical operating centers and units. Determines requirements and recognizes and analyzing trends and providing instruction and orientation services.

Qualifications

Appointments are on a time-limited basis, Temporary or Term. Initial Term appointments will not exceed 2 years with the ability to extend for two additional terms (not to exceed 2 years for each extension) NTE a total of 6 years. Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Information Technology (IT) Management Series 2210 (Alternative A) (opm.gov) EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: Knowledge of IT systems analysis and applications software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging IT security methods and principles, the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software projects; and to design, write, test, debug, and maintain information systems and applications software and ensure successful integration with existing and anticipated infrastructure in the database environment KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of IT systems analysis and applications software concepts, functions, techniques, and capabilities sufficient to evaluate new and emerging IT security methods and principles, the feasibility of proposed new systems and applications software projects; and to design, write, test, debug, and maintain information systems and applications software and ensure successful integration with existing and anticipated infrastructure in the database environment. 2. Knowledge of operational activities (such as special operations, personnel recovery, airlift, etc...), weapon systems, and command, control, and mission process, systems, and applications. 3. Knowledge of IT management information systems and applications software technology to isolate causes of problems between hardware, system, and applications software programs and to measure system performance and/or extend operating system capabilities to support organizational business processes and operations. 4. Knowledge of IT management information systems requirements and application software development techniques required in carrying out project assignments of considerable difficulty and with little specificity regarding approach to be followed. 5. Ability to maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and predict how management can meet future requirements. 6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an organization. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
