About the Position: This is a Security Specialist, GS-0080-11 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Northwestern Division (NWD), Omaha District, Security Division.

Duties

Establish and maintain the District's physical security systems security equipment, repositories, and barriers. Perform physical security inspections of the District Headquarters, dams, power plants, resource management operations, area and resident engineer offices throughout the military and civil boundaries of the District. Prepare necessary written reports setting forth findings, conclusions, and recommended action. Schedule and conduct internal security inspection. Investigate report of security violations, including unauthorized disclosure of defense information. Administer the District security and crime prevention education program. Prepare instructional and training information; and plan, schedule and conduct training. Coordinate with the appropriate offices to establish protective security measures for automation and communication hardware and equipment. Ensure protection levels and procedures conform to established standards, including the security of the Districts Emergency Management facilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successful completion (certification) of a resident Operations Security Level II Course within one year of entrance on duty date.
  • Successful completion of US Army Conventional Physical Security course within one year of entrance on duty date.
  • Successful completion (certification) of a Level II AT Officer course within one year of entrance on duty date.
  • Successful completion of Security Fundamentals Professional Certification within two years of entrance on duty date.
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret access security clearance for the duration of employment in this position.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Personnel SecurityPhysical SecuritySecurity EnforcementSecurity Tools and Methods Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
