Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team responsible for performing a variety of tasks associated with the day-to-day operations and administration of information technology (IT) systems within the Office of the United States Attorney. Typical work assignments will include: Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems. Providing user training and assistance on a variety of routine applications. Providing technical support services to coordinate teleconferences and distance learning activities. Installing, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting commonly used hardware and software. Assisting with the configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems using knowledge of network including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, and related hardware. Maintaining and controlling assigned telecommunications systems using knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control and operation of telecommunications systems. Performing network monitoring and management to include diagnosis of recurring network problems and service interruptions.. Installing routine software updates and patches. Participating in the testing and implementation of the information security program. Performing routine assignments and segments of projects related to technical planning, design, development, testing, implementation, and management of web sites. Administering the District's property management program to maintain accountability over IT equipment and to safeguard the equipment from theft or misuse. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement: Information Technology (IT)-related experience, obtained through paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, demonstrating each of the following competences: Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work until provides, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and respond appropriately. Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service as defined below Specialized Experience is defined as: experience assisting in the planning and delivery of customer support services including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and/or training; Performing analysis, testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, integration, maintenance, and/or management of networked systems; ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data; following established procedures for data recovery and preservation of electronic evidence to include reporting procedures; conducting Internet server maintenance functions. Education: a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.) in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Combination of Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
