Duties

Directs and exercises supervisory authority over a staff of accounting technicians Plans and assigns work to subordinates Provide accounting technicians with customer service training and technical assistance to ensure prompt, accurate, and effective service is provided to customers. Explain accounting procedures and directives in order to ensure accurate, valid, and proper maintenance of accounting records and transactions. Ensure accuracy, propriety, and legality of accounting transactions through extensive review of documents.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-6) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. Specialized experience is defined as follows: For GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-06 if outside the Federal service experience which would equip the applicant with the knowledge of maintaining accounting or financial ledgers; posting financial transactions; preparing accounting reports; reconciling accounts and working with a variety of accounting and financial automated systems. For GS-08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-07 if outside the Federal service processing and auditing complex contracts and vendor pay entitlement transactions; reconciling pay system and financial system data; working with a variety of electronic systems to review and resolve pay transaction issues. Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-6 or higher grade in Federal Service. You may qualify for consideration if meeting time-in grade, specialized experience, education requirement, 90 days after competitive appointment requirement, and all other qualification requirements within 30 calendar days after the closing date of the announcement, unless otherwise indicated on the announcement. The Security Designation will vary and dependent upon position and may require a secret clearance or higher. Employment in this position requires a background investigation which may delay starting date.
