You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Industrial Hygiene Program Office (IHPO) of NMRTC CAMP PENDLETON CA.
This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Salary Range GS-11 $69,107-$ 89,835 GS-9 $57,118 -$74,250
Duties
You will perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations individually or as part of a team.
You will research the chemical and toxicological literature, develop and/or recommend individualized methods and approaches to obtain a valid and complete evaluation.
You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of air contamination; noise and other physical stressors as well as the quantitative assessment of ventilation systems.
You will recommend engineering controls to correct deficiencies where feasible.
You will provide consultation and advice to activities on occupational health problems and concerns, when requested.
You will plan and conduct complete evaluations of work operations.
You will prepare preliminary and final technical reports of studies, surveys and investigations.
You will evaluate the need for qualitative assessments.
You will review plans for new construction and alternations of existing facilities.
You will enter data into a number of databases.
You will participate in educational programs to keep customers informed of industrial hygiene legislation and techniques.

GS-11: In addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENT, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices carrying out all industrial hygiene programs for organization activities, (e.g., Navy and Marine Corps), concerned with a wide variety of industrial sites and research laboratories.
Using industrial hygiene sampling techniques and instrumentation;
Devising a variety of control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education, personal protective devices;
Recognizing and evaluating occupational health hazards, including those for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood; AND
Utilizing industrial hygiene automated application/database/systems Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System - Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS - IH) or similar to conduct and documents SEG exposure assessments - monitor/enter result and survey command information - maintain other data/metrics necessary to document work accomplished and perform program assessments; AND
Investigating health problems which arise among workers to determine probable cause.
GS-09: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, practices regulations pertaining to occupational safety and health/industrial hygiene programs;
Investigating health problems which arise among workers to determine probable cause and to recommend measures to minimize health hazards;
Utilizing personal computers, Microsoft Office Suite software products (e.g. Word, Excel, and/or Access), windows computer operating system/applications;
Assisting in the evaluation of occupational health hazards to include those for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood; AND
Assisting in devising control measures for ventilation, shielding, material, substitution, and change in work procedures.
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is preferred but not a requirement.

Education
ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE Basic Requirements
The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the
U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; (Your transcripts must be attached.) - A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; .(Your transcripts must be attached.) Courses in the
history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
Evaluation of Education - All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum.
