These positions are located in Flagstaff Area National Monuments, in the Interpretation, Education & Fees Division.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately from the beginning of February to the end of December, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.
Duties
As a uniformed employee, incumbent serves as a frontline representative of the National Park Service. This position serves as the Lead Rec Fee Technician primarily at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.
Major Duties:
Lead at least three full-time employees performing duties associated with the collection of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under the authority of Federal laws and regulations such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (FLREA).
Serve as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc.
Operate an electronic cash register and perform opening and closing shift functions (ability to work alone and with others and where attention to detail and accuracy in handling funds is necessary)
Proper completion of daily shift reports, verifying accountable stock, and completion of other reporting documents.
Provide resource and technical knowledge for fee collection employees and assure that the day-to-day logistical needs of the operation are met and maintained.
Assist the supervisor with on-the-job training of employees, provide guidance as it relates to visitor center and fee operations, and is responsible for troubleshooting of technical equipment.
Other duties may include visitor management related services such as traffic control, performing radio/phone notification of emergency situations and handling emergencies until arrival of proper authorities; professionalism, courtesy and quality customer service.
Area Information:
Flagstaff Area National Monuments consists of Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments. Wupatki is approximately 35 miles northeast, Sunset Crater Volcano approximately 10 miles north, and Walnut Canyon approximately 5 miles east of Flagstaff, Arizona. Flagstaff has a population of about 75,000 and an elevation of 7,000 ft. Summers in Flagstaff are warm with temperatures normally in the 75-85F range and a monsoon/thunderstorm season. Winters are cold, with low temperatures in the teens and snow averaging around 90-100 inches per season. Flagstaff offers complete medical, dental and shopping services, along with excellent educational opportunities at Northern Arizona University and Coconino Community College. Finding affordable housing in Flagstaff can be challenging and may be limited. The surrounding high desert, mountains and lakes, other national park units, and national forest lands provide many varied recreational opportunities.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/03/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience.
For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties to include operating a point-of-sale system; using an automated financial system to perform accounting and/or financial transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial record; resolving issues that arise in the remittance process and assisting staff with fee issues. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
