This position is located in the Outpatient Department of the Hopi Health Care Center, located in Polacca, Arizona. Incumbent is a member of the patient care team. Incumbent functions as the work leader for the Certified Medical Assistants and performs a combination of clinical/technical task related to the treatment and care of patients.

Duties

Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization, assure timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy; Give on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices; provide technical guidance and coaching; serve a preceptor for trainees/students and participate in teaching designated paraprofessional staff, including newly assigned personnel and new graduates. Lead and support CMA improvement work focused on patient-centered medical home principles, GPRA initiatives, and role clarity; conduct discipline specific meetings and trainings. Provides front-line patient care duties, often in the role of a clinic float, and may include covering various care teams throughout ambulatory services, or may support same-day access visits. Recognize urgent/emergent patient and clinical situation; promptly report subtle changes in the patient's condition including reported critical lab values to RN/NP/PA/MD. Responsible for providing communication (report) to the responsible accepting RN.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. For positions requiring positive education requirements, or if you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned) in your resume. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-8: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as: Directing workload and day to day activities of other employees; instructing and training employees; providing complex health care to high risk patients; using specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, EKG, & IV fluid pumps; interpreting examination requests accurately and recognizing a need for additional tests; & establishing a patient care plan, typical of experienced or senior medical assistant or health technician positions. Selective Placement Factors: Applicants must meet the following Selective Placement Factors in order to be considered for this position. You must provide proof of meeting these requirements with your application packet. Completion of an approved medical assistant training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), or by any accrediting agency recognized by the United State Department of Education. In addition to the training requirement, you must have one of the following credentials - Current and active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). Current and active Registered Medical Assistant certification (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT). Current and active National Certified Medical Assistant certification (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). **Completion of a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States that provided clinical proficiency with the necessary scope of knowledge to perform the duties of the position can be substituted for the Selective Placement Factors listed above** Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
