THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD0735000 and is part of the TN ARMYNational Guard. This vacancy is not eligible for membership to a labor organization.

Duties

As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (MILITARY) WS-8852-11, you will plan weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations. Establish deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies. Determine skills, materials and equipment required to do the work. Participate in the initial planning of current and future work schedules and development of budget requests. Provide workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations as the scheduling of projected work. Assign tasks to be performed. Explain work requirements, methods, and procedures. Instruct subordinates on new procedures or methods and provides assistance on difficult or new problem areas. Review work in progress or on completion. Make adjustments as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work. Note and investigate work related problems and independently implements corrective actions which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors. Assure that equipment and materiel is available when needed. Coordinate work with other units. Recommend and participate in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedule and approve leave of subordinates. Set performance requirements and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Determine training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Counsel employees on problems. Adjust informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Take informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems. Perform the nonsupervisory work of the function as needed. Implement regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-7 through E-9, WO1 through CW4 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 36 months experience in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
