This position is located in the Nursing Department at one of the various Indian Health Service facilities in the Great Plains Area. Performs primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of all assigned patients in the Outpatient Department with medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric, or newborn conditions.

Duties

Assess patient care needs, perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients. Reassess as needed. Develops plan of care for individual patients, identifying problems and needs of the patient adjust plan of care as needed. Formulates nursing interventions based on appropriately identified nursing diagnosis, consults with primary care provider on patients to coordinate plan of care. Adheres to nursing policy and procedures. Administers therapeutic and emergency measures as prescribed by the physician, operates specialized equipment such as defibrillator, infusion pumps, pulse oximeters, glucometers, maintains equipment checklist, assist with management of supplies and equipment, documents observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measure administered and patient response to treatment, adheres to time and attendance policies. evaluates outcomes and reassesses and revises the plan of care as delineated in Nursing Standards, evaluates professional growth and revises new objectives as needed, assists in the evaluation of employee performance {peer reviews). participates in performance improvement projects. Leads a Pl project in the Nursing Department

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Nurse Series 0610 (opm.gov) In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-9: one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples of experience include: providing professional nursing care principles, practices and procedures required to assess needs of patients; knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use; recognizing adverse signs and symptoms which are not always apparent and to react promptly in emergency situations including the implementation of life saving procedures; providing counseling, guidance and health instruction to patients; and identifying disease entities in order to recognize complications and therapeutic interventions required. OR Possess a master's degree in professional nursing. Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only) Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
