This position is located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in the Resource Management and Science Division.

Duties
Major Duties:
Conduct long-term monitoring and research in plant populations and community ecology, rare plant populations, and plant physiology.
Hike on and off trail in backcountry areas in changing weather conditions. Camp for periods up to five days in remote backcountry areas.
Makes field observations of natural resource conditions. Evaluates observed conditions and problems, and interprets variables, trends, correlations, and interrelationships among data and conditions.
Assists Project Leads and Park Data Managers with meeting data management requirements of the monitoring projects and data quality review and certification. Ensures data are complete and meet standards for distribution and archiving.
Provides information to other employees and visitors about natural resource management programs and may develop and present related interpretive programs to the public.
Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: performing floristic surveys using standardized protocols in mountainous terrain; detail knowledge of floristic sampling techniques, taxonomy of southern Appalachian flora, backcountry travel and navigation, data collection using digital and paper forms, analytical techniques to identify population trends, dichotomous keys and other floristic manuals. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two full years of graduate education or a master's degree with coursework in a field of study directly related this position to be filled including biology, ecology, botany, forestry, agriculture, etc. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have six months of specialized experience (50% of the experience requirement), and 21 semester hours of graduate work in a field of study that is directly related to the work of this position (50% of the education requirement). Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
