You will serve as a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC LEADER in the Facility and Equipment Maintenance Division of the Facility and Infrastructure Management Group within Fleet Readiness Center - Southwest at NAS North Island, San Diego, CA.

Duties

You will perform in the mechanical and automotive electrical repairs for all types of aviation ground support equipment (GSE) and related systems and devices. You will diagnose malfunctions and determine the depth of rework or repair required as well as material requirements. You will remove and replace major components such as engines (diesel and gas), generators, and jet start engines. You will perform work and instruct/assist lesser-skilled personnel on preventative maintenance and repair for cooling systems, piping systems, hydraulic and mechanical brake systems. You will inspect and test aircraft restraining devices. You will comply with safety regulations, practices, and procedures. You will instruct and assist work of lesser-skilled personnel as required.

The Screen-out Element for this position, ABILITY TO INSTRUCT, which includes performing common tasks under general supervision including: 1) Applying principles of hydraulics, air conditioning, and alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) electrical systems to support assigned Aviation Support Equipment; 2) Demonstrated working knowledge of mechanical and electrical make up and operation of powered support systems including their major mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components; 3) Assist in instructing other shop personnel in the reading and using technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, specifications, technical directives, and similar guides covering the complete assembly, troubleshooting, and layout of powered support systems; and 4) Using tools that include items of varying degrees of complexity such as load banks, multimeters and flow meters, common mechanic hand tools, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, leak detectors, drills.
