Duties
This position serves as an advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to the office manager(s) and staff of the Lander and Worland Field offices.
Defines data need parameters for specific geospatial projects and/or assignments.
Implements advanced analytical techniques necessary to solve complex geospatial and GIS
issues.
Designs, develops, and manages geospatial databases, including conversion of source data sets to useable and suitable datasets for use in appropriate hardware and software packages.
Works with a variety of resource specialists and managers to coordinate, implement and incorporate GIS resources data into the planning documents and processes.
Participates and coordinates with interdisciplinary teams at the district and local levels to ensure consistency and quality throughout program.

Qualifications

For GS-09: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:(1) Assisting with resolving Geographic Information System (GIS) issues to complete projects and assignments; (2) Administering geospatial databases to ensure its accuracy; (3) Assisting with designing or managing geospatial databases including project quality control and/or research; (4) Assisting with developing and/or implementing geospatial applications or data; and (5) Conducting spatial analysis using on-line geospatial web-mapping programs
or
master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
LL.M., if related
OR Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
For GS-11: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples:(1) Designing geospatial databases including project quality control and/or research; (2) Collaborating with others in developing geospatial applications or data; (3) Conducting spatial analysis using on-line geospatial web-mapping programs; and (4) Assisting with planning and/or management activities.

or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

LL.M., if related

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary, requiring long periods of sitting in one position, intense concentration, and working for several hours at a time. Stress may be experienced on a regular basis in attempting to respond to conflicting objectives and in working against tight deadlines
with limited resources.
Work Environment: The work is primarily in an office/computer room environment. Occasional fieldwork may be required. Fieldwork is in support of resource mapping projects and involves extended days of travel, sometimes in poor weather conditions. The incumbent must be comfortable with less than ideal conditions in remote settings in the accomplishment of mapping projects.
