This position is located in the Office of Environmental Health & Engineering, Division of Environmental Health Services (DEHS), within the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service, Sioux City District Office. The purpose of this position is to provide overall management, supervision and leadership for the Environmental Health Program within the Sioux City District. The incumbent of this position reports to the Director of Environmental Health Services.
Duties
Organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; determines short- or long-term goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on the job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a brief, clear, and organized manner; produces written information, which may include technical material, that is appropriate for the intended audience.
Defines and analyzes the dangers to individuals, businesses and government agencies posed by potential natural and human-caused adverse events.

Education:
Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-12: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Developing, evaluating, and advising on programs designed to prevent and eliminate environmental health hazards; analyzing substances to determine contamination or the presence of disease, or resolving environmental health problems through collection, tabulation, and evaluation of environmental sanitation data; development and implementation of plans to eliminate or control environmental health hazards.
Selective Placement Factor:
Per IHM Part 3 Chapter 11, Area positions at the GS-12 require professional registration as an Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or registered Sanitarian (RS). Incumbent must possess professional knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of Environmental Health required to provide: general environmental health and safety technical assistance, conduct epidemiological investigations, complete plan reviews, conduct health and safety inspections, and address environmental health issues during emergency events (disasters), as evidenced by Professional Registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) or Registered Sanitarian (RS) through the National Environmental Health Association or any U.S. State or Territory meeting the NEHA reciprocity requirements. Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only)
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
