This position is located in Police Services. The primary purpose of the position is to lead a team of Security Assistants responsible for monitoring physical security equipment and systems.

Duties

Major Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Ensures that the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services. Articulates and communicates to the team the assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, milestones, and/or program issues under review, and deadlines and time frames for completion. Leads a team of a minimum of three Security Assistant GS-0086-05 positions. Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, provides advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assists the team and/or individual members in identifying the parameters of a viable solution. Identifies, distributes and balances workload and tasks among employees; adjusts the workload in accordance with established priorities and skill levels to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensures that each employee is kept busy. Trains or arranges for the training necessary for accomplishment of individual and team tasks. Monitors and reports on the status and progress of work, checking on work in progress and reviewing completed work to see that the supervisor's instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines and quality have been met. Serves as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator. Maintains program and administrative reference materials, project files and relevant background documents and makes available policies, procedures and written instructions from the supervisor. Maintains current knowledge to answer questions from team members on procedures, policies, directives, etc. Addresses and remediates simple complaints or escalate them to the supervisor. Represents the team in dealings with the supervisor or manager for obtaining resources and securing needed information or decisions from the supervisor on issues that arise. Reports to the supervisor periodically on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, and individual and team training needs. Leads the team in assessing its strengths and weaknesses and provides leadership to the team in exploring alternatives and determining what improvements can be made (e.g., in work methods, processes and procedures). Approves emergency leave of a few hours. Recommends actions such as: assignments, reassignments, promotions, tour of duty changes, etc. Work Schedule: Full-time, 12 hour shift rotating compressed schedule depending on the needs of the service including some nights/weekends/holidays Compressed/Flexible: Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/27/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: knowledge of security or law enforcement objectives and programs; overseeing, leading, and balancing the workload of staff; carrying out support tasks related to law enforcement and security administration; monitoring and responding to physical alarm systems and security cameras; dispatching officers; monitoring computers for video surveillance; and maintaining reports and logs. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary in nature. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Working on off-tours, rotating shifts or regular overtime may be required.
