This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

Lead Inpatient Pharmacy Technician responsibilities include administrative activities such as, workload analysis, scheduling, staff training and organization of day to day operations in the inpatient pharmacy. This person also may cover Outpatient Pharmacy areas as needed and will work closely with the Lead Outpatient Pharmacy Technician. May function in various areas of the pharmacy. Assigned duties but not limited to: Perform and teach technical duties of the Inpatient pharmacy in the areas of cart fill, TCG for cart fill and re-packaging, ward stock replenishment, crash cart replenishment, Omnicell dispensing and sterile compounding procedures (including chemotherapy) Operate the ScriptPro, TCG, and Omnicell machines to maximize production and efficiency by keeping the machine fully stocked and responding to all alarms, system errors, and mechanical needs Processing, filling, and dispensing outpatient prescriptions for scheduled and non-scheduled federal legend drugs and medical devices, over-the-counter products and supply items in compliance with regulations and policies and procedures Responsible for the day-to-day operations in accordance with established priorities and assistance from the supervisor of the Inpatient Pharmacy. Responsible for workload analysis and reports to pharmacy service management regarding Inpatient pharmacy operations, including recommendations for efficiencies and cost effectiveness Responsible for maintaining a monthly schedule for Inpatient Pharmacy technicians, rotating assignments accordingly. Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of the TCG repackaging machine, Omnicell, Vista Ward package, ScriptPro automation, including, general operation, reports, and general service issues. Ensures automation is efficiently used and maintenance occurs as based on policies and procedures. Responsible for new student and/or employee job training in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assists Inpatient Supervisor on quality improvement projects. Assist in preparing for special accreditations and reviews (e.g. The JC, IG, SOARS,ASHP) and meet with reviewing/inspecting officials and/or pharmacy management Serve as a liaison between pharmacist and technicians to improve communications and to resolve work related problems. Although this position is under the supervision of a pharmacist, the employee will successfully and consistently demonstrate the exercise of independent technical judgment (without the need for readily available supervision) as well as comprehensive and thorough working knowledge of the most complex or difficult practices and procedures. Work Schedule: 7:00am-3:30pm, 7:30am-4:00pm and additional shift times may vary based on the needs of the inpatient pharmacy; with rotating weekend, holiday, evening, night hours when required. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education or Experience. A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience. Certification. Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above. Physical Requirements. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. English Language Proficiency. Pharmacy technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2, section D, paragraph 5a, this part. Grade Determinations GS-7: Experience. One year experience at the next lower level and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): *1. Ability to evaluate, analyze workflow, and coordinate work activities. 2. Ability to independently gather, evaluate, and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes. 3. Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff 4. Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment. 5. Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process. 6. Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures. 7. Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures, and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures. 8. Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to, analyze data in VA information systems. References: VA Handbook 5005/15, Appendix G28 Physical Requirements: Duties may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, or kneeling for extended periods of time. Ability to lift/push/pull light loads, carts weighing 40 pounds or more. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination. Normal range for hearing and vision. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
