Duties
WHAT IS THE STARTING THE EXECUTIVE PROCESS PROGRAM (STEP)? STEP offers a blended learning delivery consisting of virtual and Skillsoft instruction; sessions are based on microlearning pre-work, synchronous virtual sessions, and peer coaching. The microlearning content will include Skillsoft videos and courses, SHOTs videos, infographics, and articles.
The program is a collateral duty and you will stay in your current position while participating in the program.
Program Objectives:
Develop effective leadership skills
Enhance existing leadership skills using case studies, experiential activities, and peer coaching
Understand the science behind Emotional Intelligence
Demonstrate the use of Emotional Intelligence in problem solving scenarios
Program Features and Structure:
4-month program that meets 12 times using a virtual platform. Sessions will be virtual synchronous. The program has a peer coaching component where the participant will meet with a peer coach each week to discuss situations where coaching would benefit. This is a cohort based virtual program, commencing with a virtual ceremony.
Pre-work is completed before each virtual session.
Orientation session covers the program and introduces the peer coaching model using a demonstration.
Sessions on various leadership theories, emotional intelligence and change management will prepare attendees to be a leader at any level but more specifically prepare them for executive service.
Attendees will participate in peer coaching sessions to reinforce the leadership concepts. There will also be experiential learning activities to try out these new skills.
Qualifications
To be eligible for the Starting the Executive Process Program, you must have at least a Fully Successful or higher on your current annual performance appraisal. Employees on a Performance Improvement Plan are not eligible to apply. All ratings will be verified at the time of application. Applicants are required to apply to this program at their current permanent grade level (GS or IR Equivalent).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: You must have one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is experience that is directly related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience include experience gathering and compiling available data and information for aspects of a program and reporting findings to higher level employees; monitoring and reviewing established operations and interrelationships with other functions regarding workflow, work redundancy, or systemic problems; verifying completeness and accuracy of controls to ensure compliance with established procedures; and using word processing, spreadsheet and database software to prepare documents and to enter, revise, manipulate, sort, calculate, store, and retrieve data.
