This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This position is part of the maintenance force at a Missouri River area Office. Performs a variety of tasks associated with the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, utilities, and equipment.
Duties
Complete carpentry work on buildings and structures.
Repair existing plumbing systems for water lines, gas lines and sewage lines and hooks up to existing systems.
Paint interior and exterior buildings, park facilities and park equipment.
Perform manual labor and ground maintenance duties such as planting trees and shrubs, laying of plumbing systems, and building sidewalks.
Completes basic rudimentary welding jobs.
Builds and sets concrete forms on projects such as sidewalks, steps, walls, curbs, ramps, and roads.
Operates construction equipment such as loaders, dozers, and excavators to support floating plant and district lake project operations.
Drives trucks with an approximate gross vehicle weight of 26,001 pounds or more and operates motor boats up to 26 feet in length.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B is required within 24 months of employment in this position.
- Position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing throughout duration of employment in this position.
- Must pass a pre-employment medical exam and random medical exam throughout the duration of employment in this position.
- This position requires an Untied States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) boat license within 24 months of employment in this position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a MAINTENANCE WORKER (TOOL & EQUIP REPAIR) ~ without more than normal supervision I have performed the majority of the duties of a Maintenance Worker including carrying out a wide variety of the tasks typical of a maintenance worker such as mowing, weed eating, carpentry, plumbing, spot welding, painting a variety of surfaces, and other general building and site maintenance and repairs. I have full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. I have performed daily operation checks of this equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Works in tiring and uncomfortable positions; on ladders and scaffolds which require working overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions; and in cramped and hard to reach places, Works require extensive standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, climbing and crawling. Moderate physical effort is expended in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate band and foot controls when driving heavier vehicles. Lifts up to 100 pound while carrying cement and other equipment and materials. Arm movement is considerable when nailing and using such tools as handsaws and power tools,
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all weather conditions. Performance of duties may involve work either on land based equipment or floating plant. Works in drafty, noisy and smoky conditions, May work where the presence of sawdust is in the air. Exposed to dust, dirt, fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches, and to serious accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading vehicles. Subject to cuts bruises, broken bones, contusions, burns, electrical shock, danger from flying splinter and chips, possible infections, the possibility of eye injury, to temperature extremes, and falls from ladders or slippery surfaces. Some discomfort may be experienced when wearing protective clothing, gloves and flash shield or eye goggles.
