Duties
Analyze fire behavior systems and applications and incorporate results into wildland fire science communication
Create, modify, and adapt physical science models, standard techniques, processes, and procedures.
Integrate knowledge of lightning, its physics, meteorology and climatology into wildland fire support systems.
Communicate scientific, technical, and management information to non-technical and professional audiences using a variety of print- and web-based media.
Develop training materials related to wildland fire science for workshops or formal training sessions.
Plan, conduct, modify, analyze, and apply principles and models for fire behavior, fire danger rating, and fire-climate interactions
Use computer programming and procedures, including database operations, statistical analysis tools, and data visualization packages
Requirements

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirement for Physical Science Series (1301):
Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
A combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-12 level: one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which included conducting quantitative physical science analysis and modeling related to lightning fire starts and utilizing existing and prototypical lightning detection networks

TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
