The employee serves as Journeyman Electronic Mechanic within the Facilities Management Service/Engineering Branch at the Orlando VA Medical Center. Employee is responsible to WS-2805-11 Electrician Foreman. The Journeyman Electronic Mechanic will be responsible for the day to day maintenance and operations of all Non-medical electronic systems throughout the Orlando VAMC Main Campus and off site business offices and Outpatient Clinics.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Service equipment including alarm systems (intrusion, fire and others), amplifiers, antenna amplifiers, patient wandering alarm systems, cameras, electric door sensors, nurse call systems, etc. Install, modify, overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot and repair complex electronics equipment and a complete operational system consisting of numerous complex integral components which require knowledge of electronics principles and practices. Advise the equipment user and/or the supervisor on the technical problems of installation, repair and modification of non-medical electronic equipment. Conduct pre-operational systems testing to determine consistency with required technical specifications. Analyze recurring malfunctions and recommend corrective action. Plan scheduled maintenance to ensure equipment is operating properly, calibrated properly and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Recommend, develop and implement redesign, reconfiguration or modification of operating procedures to reduce breakdowns, eliminate hazards or enhance accuracy and reliability. Determine when equipment must be removed from service, restored to service or allowed to remain in service and performs emergency repairs. Physical Requirements: Employee may frequently work in hot, humid, confined spaces around equipment and systems associated with facilities. They must climb ladders, bend, crouch, stoop and endure prolonged periods of standing and walking. Employee must lift parts and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs. Must be physically fit as work involves lifting, pulling, climbing, crawling, working with hands over head, working in confined areas and using arm and back muscles. Employee must possess ability to be on feet for long periods either standing, walking, working off ladder or staging materials and lifting equipment. Working Conditions: Employee may be required to work in areas of high temperature, cold temperature, constant noise, chemical fumes, dirt, soot, rotating equipment, oil and grease. Work is performed inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather, wet cramped locations; is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises, toxic fumes, gases and acids. Assist in other crafts within the Engineering Services. Must be aware of safety hazards and know what action should be taken to avoid them. Observe all local and National Safety Codes. Must know and comply with all the safety factors of the various trades to prevent fires and injury to patients and personnel. May be in an environment where it will be required to wear a respirator and disposable clothing including coveralls and cover for head, hands and feet.
