About the Position: Works under the supervision of the Museum Director. Receives day to day assignments from the Arms Curator and Exhibit Specialist in support of curatorial staff, exhibition program, and maintenance of the collection storage areas. Performs technical duties in support of the historical collections of the West Point Museum, with responsibility for the loans program of weapons and/or other artifacts required to support the Dean's academic agenda.
Duties
Maintain a loan collection of arms, art, and other historical collections.
Maintain a loan collection of education and exhibit support property.
Assist Curators in collection related tasks in storage areas, or in the development of museum displays. May provide lectures to cadets/public as required.
Maintain security room storage, its security and contents, for use by the Museum at West Point.
Issue and receive artifacts and museum support property in accordance with academic teaching schedules.
Inspect artifacts upon return for any damage.
Clean artifacts and museum support property upon return for loan.
Issue hand receipts and maintain appropriate records.
Assist Exhibit Specialist with museum displays.
Coordinate transportation of artifacts (to include Small Arms/Light Weapons, art and uniforms) on a routine basis.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a Background Security Investigation.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- This position has an irregular tour of duty and may require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and in other situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience related to museum work, to include collections management; automated collections accountability; collections care and storage; artifact research methods; use of office management techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: One full academic year of related graduate level education such as Museum Studies or History, or superior academic achievement.
OR
Combination of education and experience as described above. To calculate your combined amount, first determine the amount of your specialized experience as a percentage of the experience requirement listed above; then determine the amount of your graduate education in excess of one full year as a percentage of the education requirement listed above; then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal 100 percent to qualify.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-5).
