This position is located in the Dental Department of the Zuni Comprehensive Community Health Center which provides "general practice dentistry/clinical dentistry" for the Zuni-Ramah Service Unit. As Staff Dentist you will perform a full range of professional dental duties in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative or preventative measures.
Duties
Provides periodontic, surgical, endodontic, pedodontics, orthodontic, prosthodontic and/or preventive dentistry services for the community.
Provides dental care services to individuals eligible for services provided by the Indian Health Service in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations within the Zuni Service Unit.
Treats assortments of systemic diseases recognizing their symptoms pertaining to dentistry and recommends them for treatment to contract dental facilities as appropriate.
Provides information to patients and families about status of dental health and planned dental treatments, and recommendations for medications and proper dental health care.
Participates in developing and maintenance of public relations with other health disciplines and tribal health groups, as well as other official and non-official health education and governing organizations.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DENTAL OFFICER SERIES, 0680
Basic Requirements for the grade GS-11:
Education: You must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: You must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
If you meet the above basic requirements, you qualify for the grade GS-11 level.
Additional Requirements for the grade GS-12:
Experience: In addition to meeting the above education and licensure requirements for the GS-11, you must have at least two full years of experience, one year of which is equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (obtained in public or private sector), performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments.
Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.
OR
Residency: You must have completed a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent in scope and responsibility to the next lower grade level, and/or training.
Medical Requirements for the grade GS-11 and GS-12: You must be able to distinguish shades of color.
Copies (official or unofficial) transcripts must be included in your application to support meeting the Basic and Licensure requirements.

This position has promotion potential to the GS-12 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval. Promotion to the next higher grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.
