About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Family, Morale, Welfare & Recreation Division located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. ???????Fort Belvoir is a 15-minute commute to/from the Arlington National Cemetery Metro Station, a 10-15-minute commute to/from the Rosslyn, Virginia Metro Station, and is accessible by bus transportation. The installation is approximately 7 miles from Washington D.C. and a short distance from major roadways and express highways.

Duties

Coordinates and directs the Family Advocacy Program. Develops and publicizes information about the seriousness of child and spouse maltreatment, and procedures for reporting all incidents of child or spouse maltreatment. Provides mandatory training for all unit commanders and non-commissioned officers in the area of identification of potential problems and what actions may be taken within regulatory and statutory limits. Plans and coordinates a broad community education and awareness program and primary and secondary prevention programs to reduce family violence. Ensures that all reported cases of child/spouse abuse are coordinated properly and that professional child protective procedures are followed by all installation activities. Ensures all case receive immediate action, including evaluation, treatment, and supportive services. Develops memorandum of agreement with local civilian agencies and between installation agencies, MTF and DODDS.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.

Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Family Advocacy): Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) by developing installation procedures; assessing the special needs of the community; identifying local and national trends in family violence prevention and treatment; developing prevention and education program to inform the community about child and spouse maltreatment; developing and publicizing information about child and spouse maltreatment; and performing supervisory duties to include assigning and reviewing the work of subordinates, developing work performance standards and initiating personnel and position actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-???????11).
