About the Position: The U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command, headquartered in North Chicago, IL, is a jointly staffed command, staffed by representatives of all branches of the Armed Forces. The command, through its 67 military processing locations (Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS)/Remote Processing Stations (RPS)), determines whether applicants are qualified for enlistment based on standards set by each of the services. This position will be filled on a permanent basis.

Duties

Use word processing software to produce a variety of documents. Draft correspondence using automated word Processing software. Arrange conferences, travel schedule and site visits. Arrange travel itineraries for the Supervisor and visiting dignitaries. Coordinate visitors and incoming phone calls. Prepares travel orders and travel vouchers. Use of technical software for presentation, information, and communication. Review documents for signature by Supervisor for correct spelling/ grammar /format. Maintain workload distribution and prioritization. Coordinate the administrative work of the organization. Displays a high level of effort and commitment towards performing work; demonstrates responsible behavior.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated as non-sensitive and requires a personnel security investigation.
  • Qualified Typist is required (40 wpm).

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as Utilizing automated travel systems (i.e. Defense Travel System (DTS)) to assist in creating travel arrangements; Maintaining electronic office calendars for multiple staff members to schedule appointments and meetings; Receiving and screening visitors and/or incoming calls to determine the nature of business and whom to forward to the Commander; Reviewing office correspondence to ensure guidelines are met; Ensuring office procedures meet organizational requirements and policies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: ClericalCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Organizational AwarenessTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
