This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Financial management to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This Accounting Technician position is with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Finance Center Mailroom. As an Accounting Technician, you will perform a variety of accounting oriented technical support through the analysis and evaluation of civil and military accounting data.

Duties

Certifies the legality and propriety of payments. Receives, reviews, and processes accounting transactions and requests for establishment of additional accounting records. Verifies the accuracy, completeness, and validity of a wide variety of accounting transactions. Determines cause of errors and takes corrective actions for all discrepancies uncovered. Advises lead technician or supervisor of recurring problems recommending long range solutions that could result in changes in processing procedures. Compares transactions entered to those intended, corrects invalid or incorrect entries, and reviews/reconciles accounts. Responds to routine and non-routine questions from customers or lower level technicians regarding accounting data, discrepancies, and procedures. Develops and suggests interpretation of comparative data reflecting relationships between accounts, time periods, costs of different operations, etc.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain a Financial Management Level I certification within 24 months of entry on duty.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. This position is required to report to the building daily. This position is NOT telework eligible. For the GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience at the GS-4 level with performing work that involves the examination of accounting documents to ensure completeness of data, accuracy of computation, appropriateness of monetary data, and validity of accounting classification; and a basic understanding of the requirements for the processing in an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
