About the Position: This position is a DOD Cyber Excepted Service (CES) personnel system position in the Excepted Service under 10 USC 1599f. Employees occupying CES positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at the 7th Signal Command 21st Signal Brigade located at Fort Belvoir, MD. .

Duties

Responsible for performing the duties associated with a Primary Technical Control Facility, and a Defense Communications Satellite Facility. Act on behalf of the Commander for the continuity of communications services, operational capabilities, administrative, and physical security involving facilities and personnel supporting US Army Signal Activity. Maintain complete knowledge regarding all operational facets of the Technical Control and Satellite facilities. Provide briefings to the US Army Signal Activity, Commander or their representative, command staff personnel and higher headquarters on operational status to include Commanders’ Critical Information Items. Coordinate the engineering and activation of circuits/systems/networks and equipment in support of daily operations, emergency real-world operations and exercises to test communications and procedures under simulated emergency situations. Direct and advise shift personnel on analyzing, isolating, and identifying problems in various types of interactive communication transmission media such as digital data, voice communications, and satellite systems. Ensure problems are properly recorded in Facility Circuit Information Tracking database. Responsible for the overall operations of the shift within the Technical Control and Satellite Facilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Three year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • This position is 24x7 and subject to rotating 12-hour shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) business travel may be required less than 5% of the time.

Specialized experience would be demonstrated by enhancing the efficiency of various digital or strategic data systems and networks; installing and repairing various communication systems and satellite equipment; and operating various types of communication equipment i.e., long haul communication circuits/systems/networks, and cryptographic equipment.
