Duties

You will execute design and analyses, utilizing advanced architectural software. You will conduct site investigation field trips to project sites to collect all pertinent data and refine or develop project scope by inspection of existing conditions and through meetings with the sponsoring and using activities. You will investigate or evaluate architectural issues and concerns in existing facilities, and develop reports that include recommendations and options for remediation or corrective measures. You will plan and lead project design conferences/work sessions and on-site design charrettes/ Functional Analysis Concept Development (FACD) with stakeholders to determine project requirements and to develop concept designs. You will identify areas of risk associated with design and construction and develop mitigation strategies or alternatives. You will perform quality assurance review of drawings, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and studies prepared by Architect/Engineer (A/E) design firms.

• You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
• This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). You must be certified as a Career Field Facilities Engineering Level II. Certification is required within 24 months of appointment.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
• Incumbent may be required to work overtime. Overtime may be required but not guaranteed on a regular basis.
• You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying knowledge of architectural concepts, principles and practices to the design and construction of facilities; 2) Providing technical recommendations/solutions to engineering problems encountered during the administration of construction projects ; and 3) Performing cost estimates, feasibility studies and/or constructability reviews in the construction of facilities. Education

Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college or university in architecture which includes 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of my background is demonstrated by at least one of the following: (I) Related Curriculum- Degree from an accredited college or university in architectural engineering may be accepted as satisfying in full the basic requirements, provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in response A. (II) Experience- An applicant lacking a degree in architecture must have at least 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that the applicant has acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.
