The primary purpose of this position is to direct and coordinate Missile Communications Maintenance (MCM) training Activities, to train and work with MCM systems maintenance specialist/technicians while inspecting, maintaining, and repairing assigned MCM systems and to provide a specialist capable of diagnosing hard-to-locate equipment problem areas.
Duties
- Functions as the MCM work-center's training leader.
- Conducts on the Job Training (OJT) and classroom instruction for assigned personnel.
- Functions as the work-center's "System Specialist" possessing extensive knowledge of basic electronic principles, test equipment, the specific systems maintained and their component parts (Whole and Part) and electronic/mechanical skills and abilities above the craftsman level to perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance and repair on the assigned systems.
- Maintains and monitors manual and automated training products for all STRATCOM technicians.

- Must have a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must meet all requirements of the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP)IAW AFI 36-2104 permitting work on, or in close proximity of, critical components and/or nuclear devices. Position is Critical PRP Code "A".
- Subject to call back to meet emergency situations, may be required to work rotating shifts or uncommon tours of duty.
- The employee must obtain and maintain a top secret security clearance.
- This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2600 - Electronic Equipment Installation And Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the Ability To Do the Work of an Electronics Mechanic Training Leader without More than Normal Supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of advanced operating electronic principles for discreet and packaged electronic components; power supplies; computer monitors and printers; circuit' analysis and reduction techniques for circuits containing transistors, resistors, diodes, capacitors, relays, varistors, transformers, integrated circuits, oscillators, and level/frequency detectors; modem and cryptographic equipment; computer hardware and software to include DOS and Windows; telephone switching equipment, audio transmission lines, amplifiers, load coils and equalizers; electronic test equipment theory of operation, use and applications for oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, vacuum tube voltmeters, audio oscillators, audio attenuators, transmission impairment measuring set, megohmmeter, milliohm meter, differential voltmeter, decade resistance, and LCR meter. Knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices.
Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Skill to modify systems by adding, altering, or removing components to standardize or alter the purpose of the equipment or to incorporate new features developed since the equipment was manufactured.
Skill in troubleshooting and repairing electronic communications systems, components and subassemblies to a failed drawer, card and discreet components respectively.
Skill in the use of electronic test equipment such as computer controlled automated test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, pulse and signal generators, distortion and waveform analyzers, digital data generators, digital voltmeters, frequency generators, and special test panels; and in the use of a variety of hand tools such as screwdrivers, drills, wrenches, soldering irons, and micro soldering units.
Ability to interpret and apply technical manuals, instructions, specifications, diagrams, illustrations, schematics, and similar guides and demonstrate proper trade techniques to others.
Ability to plan and schedule on-the-job training sessions, to evaluate the workers' progress in training and determine when workers are fully capable of performing tasks for which they have been trained. Ability to operate various computer programs and databases to record and manage training requirements and qualification status.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
