The New Mexico VA Healthcare Network is recruiting for a Computer Assistant assigned to the Nursing Service. The incumbent will provide administrative, data support and retrieval, and computer Automated Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC) support of the Clinical and Administrative operations of the inpatient wards.

Duties

Implement, direct, and support the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and Veterans Integrated System Technology and Architecture (VISTA) software packages and personal computer applications which automate the clinical function throughout the impatient wards. Primary responsible for monitoring the overall computer applications operation and status and providing local user support, training and general guidance. Determines/defines ADP requirements for the organizations. Prepares analysis and justification to substantiate requests for ADP software and hardware. Works with technical staff to implement/install new software and hardware. Works with information management to implement, modify, and troubleshoot local system. Communicates user's needs in order to modify system. Communicates ideas for enhancement that require program changes to local systems. Works with programmers/developers at the appropriate Information Systems Center to resolve problems. Prepares annual SADP equipment needs plan for in patient wards. Maintains an inventory of ADP equipment assigned to the inpatient wards. Responsible for several reports utilizing File manager. Orders all supplies of inpatient wards ADP system users. Uses computer software programs to develop procedures for validation of data input. Analyzes data, identifies discrepancies, makes corrections, and recommends a course of action to assure accuracy and timeline of future data input. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/29/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: GS-07 Grade Level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-06) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: assist with installing new software and hardware; assist users with general office software (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, E-mail, etc.); and performing clerical duties (e.g. prepare reports; prepare correspondences; maintain files; answer customer inquires; utilizing automate software; maintain inventory, etc). Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books or small parts or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
