Under the guidance and leadership of the Director, Pentagon Services Division (PSD), Executive Services Directorate (ESD), Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), incumbent serves as Assistant Transportation Supervisor. Serves as principal assistant to the General/Executive/Bus Section Supervisor, Pentagon Motor Pool (PMP).

Duties

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Responsible for participating fully with the General/Executive/Bus Section Supervisor, Pentagon Motor Pool (PMP) for planning, organizing, developing, coordinating, and directing all activities of Transportation Operations as they pertain to the PMP. Serves as the first line supervisor over one of several shifts starting at 0600 and ending at 1930, Monday through Friday exercising supervisory responsibility for control over work operations. Assigns work and provides technical direction. Aids the Operation Cell by coordinating all Special Ceremonial Mission request for the office of the Secretary of Defense, Protocol, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Department of Army and Air Force. As an additional duty, in the absence of the Safety Technician performs accident investigation techniques (e.g., conducts interviews with driver(s) to determine the actual cause of the accident and report findings in accordance with procedures).

  • The incumbent must posses a valid U.S. State Driver's license
  • The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a State Motor Vehicle Operator License, Operator License, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger (P) endorsement and air brake endorsement along with a good driving record
  • Employee has 90 days to obtain a Commercial Driver's License from the date of entry on duty
  • MISSION ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE. Mission essential employees may be required to report for, or remain at, work in dismissal or closure situations due to adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations
  • The incumbent is required to pass a pre-employment and yearly physical examination for this position

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is Ability to Lead or Supervise JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements: Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. Operation of Motor Vehicle PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Light to moderate physical effort is required in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavier loads due to the number of passengers. Moderate physical effort may be required in the handling of objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasional handling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Operates vehicles day or night in all types of traffic and weather conditions for all shifts. Operator is subject to cuts, bruises, and other injuries as a result of accident while driving vehicles. Must agree to work any of two shifts with proper notification. If required, must agree to wear government provided uniform while operating vehicles. If required to work overtime, must agree to do so and will be compensated at the authorized overtime rate. ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act Chapter 21 of Title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section 2108a, requires Federal agencies treat active duty service member as veterans, disabled veterans, and preference eligible, when they submit, at the time they apply for a Federal job, a "certification" of active service in lieu of a DD-214, assuming the service member is otherwise eligible. A "certification" letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. The service member's military service dates are necessary in order to determine whether he or she meets the definition of "veteran" under 5 U.S.C. 2108(1). The "certification" must reflect the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions not later than 120 days after the date of submission. The "certification" must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Further, under paragraph (h) of the rule, agencies are required to verify a qualifying separation from military service prior to appointment, through the DD-214 or other appropriate documentation. Your preference and/or appointment eligibility will be verified prior to appointment. Active duty members that fail to provide a valid "certification" of service with their initial application will be found "not eligible." Military members may be appointed before the effective date of their military retirement/separation if member is on terminal leave. Current or Former Political Appointees: Beginning January 1, 2010, agencies must seek prior approval from OPM before they can appoint a current or recent political appointee to a competitive or non-political excepted service position at any level under the provisions of title 5, United States Code. If you are currently or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, or Non-career SES employee in the executive branch, you MUST disclose that to the Human Resources Office.
