Job opening: PROTECTIVE AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT REPAIRER

Salary: $23 - 27 per hour

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Perform weekly air quality testing using electric an air test equipment such as Breathing Apparatus Test Bench Console, face fit testers, and High Pressure (5000 PSI) respiratory air system. Conduct test on users for proper fitting of respirators. Conduct test on users for proper fitting of respirators. Perform cleaning, sanitizing and sterilizing of safety and respirator equipment. Operate commercial type, ultrasonic sterilizing, and washing machines and drying devices for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and drying of safety and respiratory equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Obtain and maintain a factory certification to use high pressure (5000 PSI) air system, and to use quantitative fit test machines.
  • Obtain and maintain a manufacturer's certification to repair emergency breathing apparatus (EBA), self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), supplied air respirators (SAR) type respirators, and to use respirator test bench.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) PROTECTIVE AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT REPAIRER ~ without more than normal supervision. I receive all used safety and respiratory protective equipment for the installation. I maintain, troubleshoot, test, repair, and calibrate electric and air operated test equipment. I perform quantitative face fit test protocols using several respirator fit test machines. I calibrate equipment to operate according to manufacturer's specifications. Set up, maintain, and update tool crib records. I issue and repair protection and safety equipment to the Industrial Area on the Installation. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Incumbent is required to walk, stoop, and bend. Frequently lifts items weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in building with concrete floors. Work area is lighted, ventilated, and heated. There is danger of slipping and falling from working on wet surface and exposure to disagreeable odors from cleaning solutions. Work assignments involve a thorough knowledge of hazardous material handling and related activities. Incumbent is required to successfully complete a variety of hazardous material classes. Incumbent is exposed to silica sand, toxic dust, polyurethane paint and other toxic substances from returned safety and respiratory equipment. Incumbent is required to wear safety shoes, aprons, respirators, gloves and coveralls when needed.
