About the Position: Serves as the Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Office Secretary for the New Orleans District United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
Duties
Serves as an expert by providing any/all personnel assistance in processing Purchase Requests and Commitments (PRC) within the automated system.
Serves as Human Resources point of contact for the office by working with supervisor to initiate personnel actions, training requests, awards.
Provides advisory services for benefits, pay issues, leave, etc.
Works with delegated Hand Receipt Holder for the assigned SOH Office to insure property is accounted for and utilized in the office and the field.
Maintains database for organization's accountable property.
Serves as the administrative focal point for the SOH Office (answering phones, directing visitors, forwarding technical inquiries, distributing mail, prepares correspondence, and maintains files.)
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
- Temporary travel (TDY) approximately 10% of the time may be required.
- One-year probationary period may be required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Monitoring office supplies, equipment, facilities, and/or financial resources; AND 2) Maintaining mail and suspense logs to ensure dates are met; AND 3) Coordinating fiscal year operating budget covering such expenses as equipment, supplies, salary, travel and training with management; AND 4) Preparing correspondence, reports, and presentations or similar material ensuring proper grammar and punctuation utilizing Microsoft Word or similar automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Executive Assistant/Executive Secretary, Business Operations Support and Secretarial Services.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
