This position is located within the in the Office of Communications & Community Affairs at the Detroit VA Health Care System in Detroit, MI responsible for supporting the Public Affairs program. This position will provide DVAHCS web content management, SharePoint Administration, video/graphic production, and writing support for the Office of Communications & Community Affairs to help improve access to care, enhance direct communication to Veterans, and foster good public perceptions.
Duties

Duties may include, but not limited to the following:
Develops, designs, implements, maintains, and promotes the Detroit VA Internet/Intranet and SharePoint Sites in order to enhance information distribution.
Collaborates with Services and programs to review sites, provided design guidance, and develop and maintain content routinely to ensure it meets VA, federal regulations and compliance requirements.
Writes, develops, edits, and maintains website content to keep the public informed of the organization's programs, services, accomplishments, and point of view to improve access to VA health care.
Researches, writes, edits, proofreads, and copyedits a variety of documents for posting on the web and other electronic communication resources.
Plans and sets up stories, features, information or data for online dissemination.
Ensures Internet and Intranet websites comply with all VA web policies.
Coordinates with IT staff and network engineers to integrate new technology applications in support of content delivery.
Provides support for the Public Affairs program, including external and internal communication to ensure appropriate branding and messaging for the DVAHCS.
Plans, develops, and produces a variety of materials and publications including print, visual, Web-based, multimedia, and video materials to convey information about the VA health care system to a variety of stakeholders.
Creates design solutions that have a high visual impact, including listening to clients and understanding their needs before making design decisions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-11 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Public Affairs Specialist. Qualifying specialized experience includes performing web content management; designing and maintaining SharePoint sites; developing creative ideas and designs; and providing support activities such as responding to media inquiries and internal and external communication. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. -OR-
EDUCATION: Have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. (Transcripts Required) -OR-
COMBINATION: Have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate education in excess of two years combined with specialized experience as described above may be used to meet total qualification requirements. (Transcripts Required)

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel and to attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. The employee may carry light items such as cameras, papers, books, or small parts, or drive a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special physical effort. Travel may be required.
