THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT PILOT (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D0640000 and is part of the IL AASF 2, National Guard.

Duties

As a AIRCRAFT PILOT (TITLE 32), GS-2181-12, you will pilot a variety of aircraft in support of the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) or Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD) logistical and operations missions. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Inspect aircraft for defects and malfunctions, according to pre-flight checklists. Conduct in-flight tests and evaluations at specified altitudes and in all types of weather to determine the receptivity and other characteristics of equipment and systems. Evaluate other pilots or pilot-license applicants for proficiency. Plan and formulate flight activities and test schedules and prepare flight evaluation reports. Utilize flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics. Work as part of a flight team with other crew members, especially during takeoffs and landings. Plan and formulate one or more missions such as, air-to-air; air-to- ground; mortar-to-arm escort; surveillance; reconnaissance; surface attack; killer-scout; target illumination; or laser targeting. Execute the planning, scheduling, and flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace. Conduct tactics such as flying in mountainous terrain, performing tactical remote site evaluation, performing landings on remote sites, providing ground and flight training, and conducting night-vision operations and instruction.

Requirements

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools. Must submit with application!
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Warrant Officer/Enlisted - May not exceed the rank of CW3. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUSTpossess a competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts, including a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-12 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes two years of experience in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation; reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings; aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments; performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance; conducting or supervising the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks; developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders; unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense, Department of the Army, National Guard Bureau, and/or Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies, regulations, and directives; and knowledge in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma. An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is optimum.

Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
