The position is at the full performance level located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Loma Linda VA Medical Center (VAMC) in the Medical Media Department. The primary purpose of the Reprographic Technician produces black & white and color print materials using high volume, high speed production output printers using Fiery technology. Workload controlled and monitored via coordination of the Media Chief or designated staff member.

Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Utilizes computer (PC) to receive, review and download required documents to produce print request. Produces color and black & white direct print, copy/duplication materials using high-speed digital printers controlled by Fiery technology. Prints products produced on a variety of materials to include Gloss, Matt, specialized finished materials: Magnet, Velum, Film and Cardstock. Manipulates DPI resolution for print from web images. Utilizes a variety of finishing equipment: Binding machines, pneumatic cutters, jogger, electronic multi-folder, shrink wrapper and booklet makers. Diagnoses equipment malfunctions, operating problems, and performs corrective adjustments (operator level only) as needed. Calls vendor technical support when higher levels of repairs are needed and work with technician to resolve equipment problems. Performs basic maintenance, change toners, adjusting equipment for different job types and resolve minor equipment operating issues. Answers the phone, e-mails to provide technical information on functions and standard operating procedures of the facilities reproduction unit. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/26/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Operates and maintain sophisticated high-speed production printers using Fiery Technology, bindery equipment with features that require skill and adeptness in all technical aspects including the computer components and printer/scanning software associated with each respective copier and associated machinery (collator, cutter, etc.). Operates RICOH 8000 & 9000 or similar production series printers, In-line and off-line booklet makers, electronic hole punch, Production Plockmatics, Thermo Foil Fuser, Hydraulic controlled cutters, Perfect Binder, GBC Punch, Padding, packaging equipment, Shrink wrapping equipment and high-volume jugglers. Determines printing specifications, paper sizes, ink colors and layout requirements. Requires a thorough knowledge of the mechanics and maintenance of the reproduction equipment, which is essential requirement in order to provide sound judgement in determining the most cost-effective means of printing. Proficient in desktop publishing print skills and computer literate in Microsoft Office, Publisher, Adobe Suite, Illustrator, Photoshop and related proprietary software. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: DesignHardwareMechanical Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
