This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Duties

The major duties of the Environmental Protection Specialist position include, but are not limited to, the following: Utilize knowledge of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 and its application in federal projects. Work both on a team and independently to complete projects on time. Lead small to mid-sized projects that need interdisciplinary input and collaboration. Utilize writing and communication skills and can produce polished emails, correspondence, and work products. Work remotely by being available electronically through Teams, email, etc.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/02/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for the Environmental Protection Specialist position at the GS-09 grade, you must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have one or more years of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. This experience includes activities such as: Analyze environmental, natural, and/or cultural conditions; Assist in developing specified portions of categorical exclusions or environmental assessments in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); Apply laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to protecting natural and cultural resources; Assist in drafting, editing, revising, and issuing environmental compliance documents; Communicate resource information to groups or individuals in a clear, concise, and professional manner; Establish and maintain effective working relations with project managers and an interdisciplinary team to meet environmental program goals and objectives. You must include your resume with hours worked per week annotated. -OR- EDUCATION: Must have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL. B or J.D., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. You must include your transcripts in your application. -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Must possess a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of completed graduate education beyond the first year by 18 (or 27 for quarter hours). Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include your transcripts and hours worked per week annotated in your resume. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
