Duties

Responsible for the planning, coordination, administration, and evaluation of the Medical Records Department and services it provides. Performs all administrative functions of the Medical Records Department. Coordinates medical record issues with community facilities to include the receipt of materials and the sharing of medical records. Develops policies and procedures for the Medical Records Department and for the medical staff for medical records standards. Performs quantitative and qualitative analysis of patients’ records to assure required components are present, that proper terminology is used, and that contents are filed in proper sequence. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related. Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience in planning, developing, and directing a medical records program for a health care facility that meets both institutional goals and standards of accrediting agencies. Experience in evaluating and analyzing the organization and operation of medical records services, including medical records and indexes, and recommending and/or implementing appropriate revisions and modifications. Experience in assisting medical and administrative staff in evaluating the quality and appropriateness of patient and health care services. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
