This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Perform field level maintenance involving inspections of several types of towed, self-propelled, and turret artillery systems, their mounts and carriages. Conduct visual and operational test of equipment. Disassemble, repair, reassemble, install, and adjust essential turret elements, parts, and subassemblies by cleaning, servicing, preserving, lubricating, and the adjustment of one or more components.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

  • This position requires the incumbent to pass pre-employment medical examination.
  • Will be required to work shift work, overtime, nights, weekends and holidays as well as on site repair in a field environment, emergency maintenance and recovery operations.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain valid driver's license to operate government/military equipment for the purpose of troubleshooting, road testing and recovery.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Artillery Repairer ~ without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for experience and/or training which provided skills and knowledge of the following: Performing field level maintenance involving inspections of towed, self-propelled, and turret artillery systems, their mounts and carriages; Reviewing maintenance records or forms to determine the type of work to be done or parts to be replaced and/or installed; and conducting visual and operational tests of artillery equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, working in confined spaces and in awkward positions. Required to lift and move parts weighing up to 50 or 80 pounds and receives assistance with heavier objects. WORKING CONDITIONS: Normally works inside on concrete floors and is constantly exposed to dirt and grease. Also required, at times, to work in a field environment while repairing equipment "on site". Injuries may occur due to falls when climbing on or walking on slippery and inclined surfaces of large artillery weapons. Is subject to frequent cuts and abrasions when using tools in confined spaces.
