Duties

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards This position is a dual function position working within Employee Occupational Health and as a Float Clinic RN. Within the float clinic role, the RN is responsible to provide, direct, and oversee the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran population in the Madison Central clinics (specialty & primary care). The Clinic RN works closely with the staff LPN's to oversee the delivery of care in Madison's Central Hospital Specialty Clinics. This includes, serving as a resource for LPN staff, assisting with patient flow, assessing patients with clinical changes in condition and responding as needed. The Clinic Nurse possesses the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. This broad-based clinical knowledge enables the Registered Nurse to effectively implement health promotion and prevention interventions, manage acute and chronic illness states, and assist veterans in the attainment ofoptimal levels offunctioning. Within Employee Occupational Health {EOH), the Nurse is responsible for supporting and maintaining employee health and safety programs which ensure delivery of quality care provided to adult employees of the VA medical center. The Primary focus of clinical practice is to maintain optimum health, prevent illness and injury, manage selected acute or chronic health problems and ensure compliance with all federal, local and state regulations related to Occupational Health practice. This portion of the Position may involve travel to other VA sites and CBOCs. Nursing care is provided by Registered Nurse (and LPN, select tasks as delegated). Nursing care encompasses a broad range of activities based on employee's needs. These may include tuberculosis screening at hire, referral for latent tuberculosis, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B immune status at hire. As indicated follow-up counseling and testing after biohazard exposure, medical evaluation for respirator fit-testing, follow-up work related injury or illness, workplace health and safety risk analysis via Accident Review Board, wellness and health promotion activities via facility wellness committee. In addition, RN is responsible to provide, direct, and oversee the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse population in the Madison Respiratory clinic. This includes, serving as a resource for support staff, providing oversight to the clinic flow and processes, assessing patients with clinical changes in condition and responding as needed, providing patient education. The EOH/Float Clinic Nurse reports to the Specialty Clinics Nurse Manager who directs the division of workload for the Float Clinic/EOH RN. The division of time spent between EOH and Specialty Clinics will be determined by the Specialty Clinics Nurse Manager or Designee. Tuberculosis Complete tuberculosis screening on all prospective employees and volunteers and ongoing screening according to risk assessments, following current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention {CDC) guidelines and facility policy Screens prior to employment and volunteering - Symptom Screen-and-QuantiFERON-TB blood draw Screens and documents - pre-employment, periodic, post-exposure; Track and trend exposures, conversions, for compliance report to Infection Control. Perform Respirator Medical Evaluation via Questionnaire review under direction of Medical Provider; provides necessary information to Industrial Hygienist Infectious DiseaseScreening Assess immune status and administer vaccination in accordance with CDC guidelines and facility policy. Influenza, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Measles Mumps Rubella {MMR), Varicella (chickenpox), Tetanus (Td or Tdap) Collaborates with Infection Control to control exposures to diseases such as influenza, shingles, MRSA, C. Difficile, norovirus, conjunctivitis, COVID-19 and environmental vermin such as bed bugs, scabies, lice. Manages medical surveillance screening for Animal Handlers. InfluenzaandCOVIDPrograms Coordinates influenza vaccine program for employees and volunteers Member of facility Flu Planning Committee Provides support for COVID Programs related to employees. ***Duties Continued in Additional Information. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: 2+ years of direct patient care in ambulatory or acute care setting preferred Employee Health Experience preferred Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-6 Nurse Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients. There may also be extended periods of sitting.
