Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for supporting the Civil Division's, Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) Section, which handles investigations of complex fraud and statutory and regulatory violations. Typical work assignments will include:

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Degree: A degree in accounting, auditing; or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that include or are supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. OR Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The experience must also include one of the following: (A) 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; OR (B) A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; OR (C) Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. In addition to meeting the basic requirements described above, applicants must also meet the minimum requirements for the GS-11 grade level listed below. GS-11: To be eligible at the GS 11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a Combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in Federal service. My qualifying experience involves reviewing and preparing financial statements; analyzing transactions and account balances to determine compliance during audits; identifying accounting errors and reconciling accounts or other financial records and reports; conducting interviews to obtain data from employees, businesspeople and other persons throughout the area who have knowledge of the operations; coordinating with office staff such as investigators, attorneys and support staff to complete settlements, payments, and close cases and investigations. OR Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, financial information systems, fraud examination or public administration): a Ph.D.; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. and abilities necessary to do the work of an Auditor. OR Combination of experience and education: Combination of specialized experience and graduate education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Only graduate education in excess of a master's degree; or in excess of 2 full years of higher-level education leading to a master's degree is creditable. To calculate your percentage of education, first determine the total number of hours that exceed 36 semester hours or your school's definition of two full years of study. Then divide the total number of your excess semester hours by 18 or your school's definition of one year of study. To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. For example, if you had 9 months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9, then you would have 75% of the required experience. If you also had 45 semester hours of creditable graduate education, 45-36=9 semester hours. 9 divided by 18 is 50% of the required education, and therefore, 75%+50%=125%. You would qualify for this position.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
