This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Temp/Term Appt Authority to meet Critical Hiring Needs to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Works as a General Laborer under the supervision of higher graded maintenance staff, Park Ranger, Park Manager or Project Manager. Performs grounds maintenance, cleaning, and basic repairs of park facilities. Pay is based on location of position.

Duties

Operates powered lawnmowers requiring heavy physical effort with steep grades and slopes. Cleans and oils mower and adjusts blades. Cuts trees and clears bushes and shrubs requiring the use of axes and chain saws. Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where dirt is hard and compact. Assists in the construction and landscaping of campsites and picnic sites. Loads and unloads heavy (e.g., objects weighing in excess of 80 pounds) boxes, bulky supplies and material to and from trucks, pullies, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
  • Must complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Must complete a pre-employment drug test and be enrolled in the drug testing program.
  • Must be able to lift up to 80lbs.
  • Will be required to work weekends and holidays
  • Must be at least 18 years old to operate a motor vehicle on public roadways.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. WG-02 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) General Labor Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common routine manual laboring tasks after being instructed on what is to be done and how to do the task. I am skilled in performing a variety of simple ground maintenance tasks. I can assist in loading and unloading various supplies and materials. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WG-03 Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) General Labor Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties such as mowing a lawn, using a shovel, and handling heavy boxes. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work in this position exerts very heavy physical effort in lifting and carrying objects, e.g., cartons, boxes and sacks weighing in excess of 80 pounds. Operates powered lawnmowers on steep grades, cuts trees with an ax or chain saw, digs ditches or trenches with pick and shovel, and pushes wheelbarrows of cement, asphalt and other materials. Working Conditions: The position works outside in a variety of weather and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, dirty and noisy. Employee is frequently subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strains and sprains and to an occasional chance of serious injury (e.g., broken bones or back injuries). Special care must be exercised to avoid such serious injury while using tools and equipment.
