The primary purpose of this position is to provide automotive maintenance support for the management and repair of the vehicle fleet. Coordinates requirements with the vehicle maintenance section and/or outside units. Analyzes and maintains related vehicle maintenance records.
Duties
Controls utilization to provide optimum support and economy of vehicle by maintaining the Government Purchase Card (GPC) account for purchasing of materials, supplies, tools or automotive parts and assists the account approving official.
Maintains ongoing vehicle maintenance related programs. In the absence of the primary production controller performs vehicle maintenance production duties.
Performs research and analysis to identify productive and deficient trends.
Assists the Fleet Management section in managing and accounting for vehicle control/inventory programs.
Provides assistance and training.

- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license may be required for the position.
- Position may require employee to obtain a Government Purchase Card.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Testing Program.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
- Travel and relocation expenses will NOT be paid.
- Required to complete SF-85 background check.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes which includes basic knowledge of a body of standardized administrative and technical publications, technical terminology (automotive), standard management practices, and automated data systems such as OLVIMS, or similar maintenance production and support systems, to perform a full range of vehicle maintenance and control support duties; Knowledge of the nature and capability of word processing software procedures and function keys to perform a substantial range of functions, such as generating tables of contents, importing graphs or databases, creating glossaries, aligning multiple columns: automatically printing document identification or other notations at the top or bottom of each page; and creating form letters and automatically merge these with mailing lists.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-06 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Basic knowledge of governing vehicle maintenance/management regulations, policies, procedures, techniques, and methods.
Knowledge of transportation fleet management functions, operations, program requirements, and work methods.
Knowledge of automated data entry techniques and processing of vehicle maintenance transactions in an automated system.
Skill in maintaining official files, records, and listings.
Ability to apply analytical methods to determine trends and make recommendations to correct unfavorable developments.
Ability to apply a body of fleet management regulations, policies, procedures, techniques and methods. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
