This Health Scientist Administrator position is located in the Division of Construction and Instrumentation (DCI), Office of Research Infrastructure Programs (ORIP), Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI), Office of the Director (OD), NIH. Duties

The Division of Construction and Instruments (DCI) supports infrastructure programs to provide the research community with shared and cost-efficient access to advanced scientific instruments that are essential for biomedical research. Additionally, DCI provides the support equipment that is so critical to modern scientific research operations. DCI also sponsors the construction and modernization of physical infrastructure that drives transformative biomedical research for 21st century results. This Health Scientist Administrator will provide technical leadership and scientific guidance in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of critical parts of the biomedical research continuum, providing support for infrastructure programs, including shared use of cutting-edge scientific instrumentation as well as construction and modernization of research facilities, to enable and advance basic science, translational and clinical research. They will also aid in establishing collaborations between DCI-supported grantees and grantees supported by the NIH Institutes and Centers; manage extramural research and research training programs; identify research areas warranting either increased or decreased funding emphasis; and provide leadership and direction in the development of plans and timelines to implement new programmatic recommendations and in the development of new solicitations. This position will provide input in interpreting major polices relating to research infrastructure and shared research resource programs and serve as a liaison with a wide variety of groups and organizations connecting biomedical research interests and other stakeholders. Ideal candidates will have a with expertise in 1) scientific instrumentation such as electron and confocal microscopes, X-ray diffraction systems, nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometers, DNA and protein sequencers, biosensors, cell-analyzers, and biomedical imagers; 2) construction and modernization of research facilities; or 3) laboratory animal sciences, including vertebrate and invertebrate species, animal genetics, molecular biology, and other relevant areas.

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirements:Successful completion of a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained). Requirements for Applicants to the GS-12 level: In addition to the education requirements, to qualify at the GS-12 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector.
