This position is located within Engineering Service, Cincinnati VA Medical Center, Cincinnati, OH. The incumbent of this position performs as a Laborer requiring prior experience or training and very heavy physical effort. Equipment characteristics include single function performance components that are independently controlled by hydraulic and/or mechanical devices. The incumbent reports to the Project Section Supervisor.

Duties

The Cincinnati VA Medical Center is a two-division campus located in Cincinnati, Ohio and Fort Thomas, Kentucky serving 15 counties in Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana with 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics located in Bellevue, KY; Florence, KY; Lawrenceburg, IN; Hamilton, OH; Clermont County, OH, and Georgetown, OH. Cincinnati VAMC also supports two off main campus locations in the Cincinnati area via an Eye Center and Mental Health Outreach Community Division. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Escorting contractors at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, Fort Thomas, and all leased spaces of the VA Medical Center. Working from work orders, sketches drawings and verbal direction; changing batteries in small devices such as paper towel, hand sanitizing and soap dispensers. Replacement of these items that are damaged and batteries don't return to operation. Spreading salt and snow removal using specialized equipment for the purpose, areas include sidewalks, roadways, and parking garage. Assisting the Minor Improvement Team and interior design in furniture installations, hanging doors, replacing ceiling tiles, equipment installation, demolition, flooring, etc. Incumbent would also assist with the various moves within the medical center. Assisting journeyman trades moving very heavy and awkward materials and supplies to installation locations, including roof areas, lower-level areas and storage areas. Construction debris cleanup and final sweep and wipe down at the completion of projects and repairs. Cleaning concrete, roadways and interior/exterior as needed after projects, storms or natural disasters using trucks, utility vehicles and pressure washing equipment. Using simple drawings or patterns to design grounds, laying sod, planting flowers, or shrubs; utilizing hydraulic and mechanical devices to load and unload supplies from trucks. Assist other associated trades in various areas as determined by the Project Section Supervisor. Physical Requirements: Must be able to bend and lift for items such as furniture installation, floor demolition, drywall install, mudding, taping. Must be able to perform overhead work such as conduit and ceiling installation. The work requires long periods of sitting, walking, standing, stooping and bending. Will exert heavy physical effort in operating large mowers on grades s and in areas with bushes, trees, and other obstacles that require significant maneuvering and lever control. Must be able to move, load, and carry materials and supplies. Must be physically able to routinely lift and move items weighing 50 pounds and occasionally items weighing as much as 100 pounds with assistance. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, and noisy. Some work will include being outside and includes snow removal. The work will be performed regardless of the weather. Employee is exposed to dirt, dust, mud, chemical sprays, noise and vibrations, hot and cold weather. The equipment, tools, and tasks involved require extreme care and use of safety gloves, steel toed shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs and a hard hat.
