You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SEVICES of NAVSTA MAYPORT.

Duties

You will establish communication with an ambulance or hospital to relay patient information. You will analyze the structural condition of a building to determine firefighting equipment and apparatus required to fight fire. You will inspect fire extinguishers to verify they are fully operational and meet all regulatory requirements. You will collect initial hazardous materials response information from hazardous materials safety data sheets, United Nations/North American (UN/NA) identification numbers, or placards.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and use all safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and will fall under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • You will be required to be certified and maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2)Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position. ***This position requires the incumbent to possess certifications***For the GS-07 the incumbent must possess the following certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazmat Technician, Driver Operator-Aerial, Driver Operator-ARFF, and Driver Operator-Pumper. All certifications must be issued by the Department of Defense (DoD), International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or ProBoard.Also requires State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). Please attach a copy of your certification(s). If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible. The following certification, if not already held, must be obtained within 12 months of hire as mandatory condition of position: Airport Firefighter and Shipboard Firefighter.
