About the Position: Serves as Public Affairs Specialist for the Operations Division, Recreation Program of the Mobile District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) reporting to the Chief of Public Affairs and Media Relations.

Duties

Maintains knowledge of a full range of communication channels, methods, and techniques including print/broadcast media, social media, presentations, and other products/avenues that convey information. Coordinates distribution of public affairs products through communications channels to include digital platforms and social media. Facilitates engagements with media outlets, elected officials, stakeholder groups and other audiences. Conducts advanced media training with other sections and offices within the district. Provides advice and counsel on strategic communication matters to leaders and other district staff. Provides advice and technical guidance to Rangers, and other staff on modes of interaction with various publics. Responds to queries from reporters, customers, and the public. Prepares public affairs products to promote understanding of district programs, projects, goals, objectives, and policies that involve complex issues and messages. Implements resource management actions that promote public awareness of biodiversity and native species. Responds to queries from media organizations, stakeholders, and the public in a timely fashion, researching information and staffing response as needed in accordance with office policy.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service: 1) Taking photographs, producing video and audio content for an organization; 2), Writing and disseminating organizational information for media press releases or feature stories; 3) Establishing relationships with local stakeholder groups and government agencies to gain interest and cooperation in an organization's programs; 4) Coordinate interviews or other media events with staff; AND ) 5) Delivering presentations or briefings directly to the public highlighting conservation efforts, local flora and fauna, wildlife, and water safety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communication CounselCommunications and MediaProject Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
