You will serve as a Machinist in the Shop Services Section, Code 3523.1 within NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY

Duties

You will set up and operate various types of machines including lathes, milling machines, shapes, planes and precision grinding machines. You will plan sequences of operation needed to complete job assignments. You will inspect completed work before turning the work over to the foreman.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Ability to read and interpret complex, multiview blueprints; 2) Use of shop math and handbook formulas in computing angular and other critical dimensions; 3) Readily adapts to changes required by the use of different machines and processes; 4) Use of general mechanical skills in assembly and installation; and 5) Use of many types of measuring tools such as micrometers, Vernier, calipers, height gauges, bevel protractors and indicators.
