This position is located at the VA Medical Center Iron Mountain, Michigan, and organizationally aligned under Nursing and Patient Care Service. The Whole Health Social Worker will be integral to this cultural shift and will be aligned with the Whole Health Program. The position will be physically located at the CBOC or remote location using telehealth or remote equipment to extend whole health interventions across the entire catchment area.
Duties
The social worker is a licensed independent practitioner with a Health and Wellness Coach board certification. The social worker will also hold certifications/training including but not limited to Trauma Informed Yoga, Clinical Hypnosis, Emotional Freedom Technique/Tapping, Guided Imagery,
Breathwork, VA THRIVE, VA CALM, Biofeedback, and Accelerated Resolution interventions. These modalities will be provided individually or in a groups, in person. and over a virtual platform.
The social worker is a subject matter expert in a Whole Health approach to care, health coaching, and health coaching for patients with complex and specialized needs. The incumbent executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the
system-wide shift to a Whole Health system, including, but not limited to:
- Exhibits the ability to articulate the philosophy and goals of Whole Health in clinical and non-clinical settings.
- Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance related to Whole Health clinical practice to multidisciplinary staff.
- Skill in specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations.
This includes individual, group, and family counseling, psychotherapy, and advanced-level psychosocial and case management.
(b) Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.
- Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring the effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes.
- Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area and role modeling practical social work practice skills.
- Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession and write policies, procedures, and practice guidelines about service delivery.
- Provides specialized consultation to colleagues, clinical and non-clinical staff related to the psycho-social assessment and treatment utilizing a Whole Health and patient-centric approach to care.
- Provide direct coaching support to Veterans with complex circumstances actively engaged in PACT, Specialty Care, and Mental Health. Maybe the sole practitioner in Whole Health clinical coaching and required to oversee the implementation and clinical work of Health Coaches

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship: Must a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.
Education: Must have a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
Licensure. Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the advanced practice level to qualify at the GS-12 level. (COPY OF LICENSE REQUIRED)
IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING GS-12 GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: Must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Program coordinators at the GS-12 grade are administratively responsible for a clinical program providing treatment to patients in a major specialty. They may be the sole practitioner in this specialty at the facility and typically provide direct patient care services in the program area.
They manage the daily operation of the program, develop policies and procedures for program operation, and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. They may be responsible for the program's budget.
Applicants must also meet the Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below:
1. In-depth knowledge of the program coordinated, and demonstrated knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
3. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
4. Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program area(s).
5. Ability to provide training, orientation, consultation and guidance within clinical specialization of practice.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-12.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary, but requires some walking, standing, bending, the carrying of light items such as books and papers, and traveling.
